Allure - Proven to have 60% greater UV light output than traditional electric fly-killers.With an innovative open top design to maximise light output of the Synergetic™ UV tubes, this truly unique zapper flykiller releases light from the back,
sides and top of the unit, creating 67% more useful UV light output than traditional flykillers utilising the same power UV tubes. The patented Z-shaped killing grid provides a 20% larger fly killing area, ensuring that the unit easily copes with the increased number of flies attracted by
the greater light output.  Designed with serviceability in mind, the killing grid, deep catch tray and UV tubes are easily cleaned and maintained whilst
the tool free, drop down guard, also holds the catch tray during servicing making the unit quick and easy to service.Independent tests show that the Allure30 attracted 448% more flies than the leading traditional 30 watt unit.

All Insect-O-Matic Allure Fly Zapper units are fitted with the patented Synergetic™ UVA-Green lamp which combines two attractant phosphors to provide these important benefits:

  • Catches common House flies, Blow flies and Fruit flies 30% faster than traditional UVA lamps (which appears blue to the human eye)
  • Attracts a broader range of insects, including stored product moths, where lamps with only UVA light are less effective
  • Keeps on working longer because the green light phosphor hardly ever degrades, unlike UVA lamps which lose up to 40% of their power after 6 months.

Fig. 1 shows the two wave length peaks for UVA-Green light. UVA-Green has two wavelength peaks attracting a broader range of flying insects. Stored product beetles including tobacco beetle, lesser grain beetle, grain beetle, rice weevil, merchant grain beetle and confused flour beetle are attracted to the UVA spectral peak. Stored product moths, including tropical warehouse moth, warehouse moth, Mediterranean flour moth and Indian meal moth are more attracted to the Green spectral peak. (Based on ‘Review of the response of stored product insects to light of various wavelengths, with particular reference to the design and use of light traps for population monitoring’ by D P Rees, Trp.Sci.1985.25, 197-21.) Common house flies, blow flies and fruit flies are more attracted to a combination of UVA and Green light. (Based on independent tests carried out by the Medical Entomology Centre at Cambridge in 1994.)

Fig. 2 shows the degradation of the UVA phosphor decreasing to output of 30% over 12 months and the green phosphor decreasing to output of 95% over the same period. (Based on tests by Insect-O-Matic and manufacturer’s information.) Green light degrades much slower than UVA prolonging the lamp’s effectiveness.
Tips for Placement and Installation of the Allure Fly ZapperPlacement of the Allure Fly Zapper is an area that is frequently misunderstood and there are a few simple points to observe.

  1. Firstly the height at which Allure Fly Zapper units are to be installed is important in terms of efficiency. As a general rule the higher up they are the less effective. In a working environment the ideal height would be between two and two and a half metres from the ground. At this height the risk of the Allure Fly Zapper units being damaged by moving trolleys or forklift trucks is reduced whilst maintaining maximum efficiency. They will also be easier to clean and maintain.
  2. The ideal location is at right angles to the major light source in the room.
  3. Allure Fly Zapper units must not be sited so that the light source is obscured (if flying insects cannot see it the unit will not be very effective).
  4. Site between potential entry points and production areas to intercept pests before they reach sensitive areas.
  5. Do not rely on area of coverage of a particular Allure Fly Zapper unit as the only criteria for choosing and installing fly zappers. There are several factors that need to be considered before deciding on the appropriate number and size of units to be installed. These would include the number of entry points including doors, windows and any other openings for instance for pipe work or extractor fans. What is the volume of human traffic through the area to be protected? What would be the normal flying insect population? What is being produced? And where is the facility located? If it is close by a lake or a rubbish tip then there will be a greater risk than if the facility is in the middle of an industrial estate.
  6. Allure Fly Zapper should not be installed in areas where they can be affected by air currents. Avoid areas close to air conditioning vents or where draughts may be a problem. This is because flying insects on the whole do not like moving air and Allure Fly Zapper units placed in these areas may be less efficient.
  7. Allure Fly Zapper units are often placed directly in front of doorways – the logic of the installer being that this is where the insects enter and so they will be more easily caught. In fact this will only encourage insects to enter and make the problem worse. It is better to install Allure Fly Zapper units off to the side of doorways ensuring as much as possible that the light does not shine out of the open door.
  8. Never ever install Allure Fly Zapper units of any description directly above a processing line or food preparation area. The Ultra Violet lamps are highly attractive to flying insects and will attract the insects to those areas. Better to install the Allure Fly Zapper units away from sensitive areas to attract the insects and kill them away from the critical areas to be protected.
  9. Don’t forget to change the lamps every 12 months – preferably just before the start of the fly season.
